San Francisco Hotels
On foot is the best way to experience much of the 49 square miles of San Francisco, but in case you get tired (and you might, because it is very hilly) there is always the ever present cable car as well as many other variations of public transport. Mark Twain once said "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" due to the sudden changes in temperature inland. The best recommendation is to wear layers when you're out and about as the Bay Area offers weather and temperatures with minimal changes and the climate dramatically changes the further rural you travel.
Places to visit include the most famous landmark of all, the 43,000 foot long Golden Gate Bridge. A visit to San Francisco should also include a visit to Fisherman's Wharf for great dining during November and June, the crab season and its Maritime National Historical Park. Fancy an exciting boat trip, a marina, impressive street entertainment? Pay a visit to Pier 39, the second most popular attraction in the whole of California. Other places to see in San Francisco are the extinct maximum security prison and former home of gangster Al Capone, Alcatraz, The Haight (for great shopping possibilities second to none in the city), the Museum of Modern Art and a trip out of town to Yosemite National Park. Much of the local architecture is little older than a hundred years old due to the terrible earthquake and fire of 1906 which razed San Francisco's pride and joy to the ground. That said the Mission Dolores dating back to 1790 still defiantly stands today and is worth a visit.
Finding accommodation in San Francisco should never be a problem either as there is so much provision available for the city's steady stream of visitors. From plush hotels to hostels, San Francisco caters for all your accommodation needs and more. If it’s the beach, the history, the lifestyle or the culture or all of the above, San Francisco will welcome you with open arms.
